Spanish Steps

Our apartment was within walking distance of the Spanish Steps.  The day we chose to go was Liberation Day, celebrating  the Allied Forces'  liberation of  Italy in 1945, so we got to join hundreds of people in the streets!

Love it! What is the significance of the Spanish Steps, besides being a way steep stairway?

These days, really just a gathering place and people watching spot. Originally built in the 1700s to link the Triniti dei Monti church with the square below. It was in the film "Roman Holiday." :) And the English poet John Keats had a house at the bottom, which is now a museum, but was closed the day we were there.

Thanks for the lesson! I saw Roman Holiday, but don't recall Spanish Steps--perhaps because I was so YOUNG then. :)
