Dallas: Picnic and Music at the Arboretum and the Chihuly Exhibit

Rich, Sarah,  Elle and I went to the Arboretum for a picnic, a concert, and strolling through the amazing Chihuly glass sculpture exhibit one night.  Miles was out of town and since we would be gone way past his bedtime, we got a babysitter for Beck.  Elle loves the Arboretum and was so excited about her big girl night out (past her bedtime, too).  It was still light when we arrived, hot, but not unbearably so.  We found a good spot in the shade for our little picnic and settled in.

We had fun listening to the music while we had our dinner.

Below, looking down on the stage with the lake in the background.  We were cracking up at some of the audience members who got up to dance.  There was one older man and woman who were getting after it and kept us in stitches, especially the guy.  He was wearing a pink shirt and shaking his booty in the most awkward way.  Now, I have to admire the fact that he got up there and didn't give a whit what anyone thought (either that or he mistakenly thinks he's a good dancer) but couldn't help but be amused. Even Elle started calling him "Pink" and looking for him if he moved out of our line of vision.

As the band took a break, it was beginning to get dark so we decided to walk around and look at all of the glass sculptures lit up.

As you can see, they are quite intricate and amazing!

For more info on the artist, Dale Chihuly, see his website here.

We met a cute little elderly man volunteering at this part of the park.   He said he and his wife volunteer at lots of events at the Arboretum and enjoy meeting people and chatting with visitors.  He also told us that the adults are worse than the kids when it comes to being destructive or just plain inattentive to the rules. haha

This one was called The Texas Star.  We had a great evening and went home tired and happy.

Don't say "Texas" and "star" in the same sentence--JWG will put it (a) on his front door, (b) hang it on the wall in his living room, or (c) both.

Love the lily pad sculpture. I read about the exhibit while I was home, but I-20 was the closest we got to Dallas. :)
