Sunny San Diego!

We were up at 5:15 and on the hotel shuttle at 6 AM for our 3 hour flight from Anchorage to Seattle. Very pleasant and no passenger issues. :) Had a short layover in Seattle and then off to San Diego, another pleasant flight which took about 2 1/2 hours. It was a beautiful sunny day. Here's our approach.

Just happened to catch the Aerospace Museum as we flew over.

Gettin' kinda low here. Thank goodness the airport was just ahead!

Char and Donna waiting for our shuttle. Char was smart and wore a light dress but Donna and I were still in our heavy Alaska clothes. It was 80 degrees when we landed! I was so happy!

We checked in for our training at the Bahia Resort Hotel and then went for a little walk around the area. We are right near a marina and Mission Beach is a couple of blocks away.

Char and I are sharing a room, which is more like a mini-apartment with a living room and kitchen. We have a little patio with deck chairs on it and a view of the water. Sweet!
After our walk and a taco dinner at Roberto's down the block, we came back for the first night and opening circle of the Healthy Native Communities Fellowship. Since I did not make it to the first retreat in January, I didn't know anyone besides Donna and Char, but everyone was very welcoming and friendly. We did several activities to get to know one another better and renew relationships for those who had met before. Soon we were all laughing and talking away. We have lots of work to do for the next week but it seems like it will be great fun as well.
Fireworks were lighting up the sky when we came back to our room! I'm up way too late after not getting much sleep last night. We have breakfast between 6:30 and 8:00 AM tomorrow. I doubt I will be there at 6:30!

I'm pretty jealous, that sounds like a great time! I'm not complaining though - I got to see a very cute dancing Easter Bunny on Flash last night . . . . heheh

A long time ago, I stayed at the hotel on Mission Bay. I knew we were right on the marina so maybe, the same one. Enjoy the sunshine.

It's so nice that you all get to sit and enjoy the warm sun and huge hotel suite on company dime. Hope it's worth it and that you are able to bring back the eduction and teach the less fortunate struggling in their communities.

I love San Diego! I went to travel school there in 1987! I want to go back, I love the approach, we always see all the battleships it seems. We have changed planes there a couple times to and from Cabo.

I think community organizing is something many do not understand, even though it has made the lives of many in struggling communities better over the years. There are many communities who are still engaged in this work.

One of the things that impresses me about the Healthy Native Communities Fellowship is that it is comprised of a cross-section of the community--all people who are stakeholders in the desired outcome of a healthy community--as defined by the community members themselves. In that regard, as I understand it and my own work with communities, the objective is not to come back and 'teach the less fortunate' but to partner with the entire community in sharing knowledge and skills to make changes desired by the community.

Jane you contribute so much to your community and even to the grander scope of humanity. You are generous -giving of your time, volunteering in many capacities. You are loyal - to the youth, teens and adults in the community, doing what you can to support and positive empower others. You are genuine. I appreciate you and the many contributions you make.

To the first anonymous writer: You obviously don't know Jane because if you did, you'd know that she is a kind, generous, wonderful person, who continually gives to her community and others. If you're going to make comments on her blog, at least have the decency to identify yourself. You're not only being rude, you're also being cowardly.
